Products & Compatibility
OBD2 scanners are compatible with most petrol-powered passenger vehicles manufactured from 1996 onwards in the United States and Canada, and most vehicles in the European Union from 2001 (petrol) and 2004 (diesel) onwards under the EOBD standard. Japanese domestic market vehicles generally follow OBD2 from around 1998. Compatibility with specific vehicle makes and models varies by scanner type — please check the product specification page for the list of supported protocols and vehicles.
Some OBD2 scanners can connect to hybrid and electric vehicles for basic functions, but coverage of HV battery systems, inverter modules, and EV-specific control units varies significantly. Not all scanners support these systems. We recommend checking the product compatibility notes or contacting us before purchasing for a specific hybrid or electric model.

A basic code reader retrieves and clears engine DTCs (fault codes) and may show freeze frame data. A full diagnostic scanner adds:

  • Live data streaming from multiple sensors
  • Multi-system coverage (ABS, SRS, transmission, body)
  • Bi-directional component tests
  • Advanced functions such as ECU coding and adaptation

Entry-level tools are suitable for basic fault retrieval. Professional scanners are designed for workshop use.

Yes. Each product includes a printed manual or instruction guide. Full technical data sheets, including measurement ranges, connector types, power requirements, and software update information, are available on the product detail page and can also be requested by email.
Manufacturer warranty coverage varies by product. The warranty period and terms are listed on each product page under the "Warranty" section. Warranty claims for defective items should be submitted by email to info@diagnosticautoscan.com with the order number and a description of the issue.

Technical Usage
On most passenger vehicles, the OBD2 diagnostic port (DLC — Diagnostic Link Connector) is located under the dashboard on the driver's side, typically within 60 cm of the steering column. The exact position varies by make and model. Consult your vehicle owner's manual if the port is not immediately visible.
Yes, an OBD2 scanner can clear stored DTCs. However, if the underlying fault condition is still present, the code will typically return after a short drive cycle. Clearing codes without addressing the fault may also reset emissions readiness monitors, which may affect emissions testing. It is advisable to diagnose and address faults before clearing codes.
Some tools, particularly professional scan systems and advanced handheld scanners, support software updates to expand vehicle coverage or add new features. Update availability and the update process are described in the product manual and on the product page. Basic code readers generally do not require updates.
